I'm "showing and telling"...
I know, the picture has not been hung yet.
Since I had so much of my downstairs area stripped of its wallpaper and painted I have an
aversion to hammers and nails... actually a fear of hammering... actually a fear of marring my freshly painted walls. 'nuff said!
I found this print at a thrift store in Austin, Texas. The orginal price was $38, however, I waited until the next day and got it for $27. I am not known for my patience but it gave me a little extra time to decide if I wanted it. Obviously, I did!
The books were all written by my parents. The black book is my father's military publication.
The red book is full of interviews, done by my mother, with Italian families who came from the old country and settled in the Brazos Bottom of Texas.
The white book is about my mother's family who came from Italy to New York and my grandparents as newly-weds to Texas. My mother also wrote this book.
The clock was a gift to my parents on one of their wedding anniversaries.
The cabinet/table has a marble top. It has
inlaid wood and is just beautiful... inherited from my husband's aunt.
The lamp... bought at a furniture store going out of business in Kingsville, Texas... got it for half-price.
I love this little spot in my home!

What a wonderful little space that is very meaningful to you and your family....I enlarged the photo and really checked out the whole thing...oh, and I'm really impressed with the books your parents wrote.
Those truly are treasures to hold and love and pass on...wonderful! :D
Beautiful vignette, Karen. Just classy! Susan
I prefer some paintings to be leaning on a piece of furniture instead of hung. I love how you have that. The lamp looks great in front of that picture. Great vignette.
What a lovely spot. Full of so many treasures.
What a nice little spot! Charished treasures on display are always the best!
Visiting from Show and Tell Friday. how lovely that you have all those books written by your parents. and the framed picture is beautiful. Thanks for sharing. Loved visiting your blog.
what a great find! such a precious lamp and beautiful vignette too!
Actually, I like it "not" hung...it's a unique way of showing it off. On our mantel we have a huge painting of TX Longhorn cattle...it's not hung, and sitting up against the wall at a slight angle...it looks good if I say so myself. Who says we have to "hang" pictures?
LEGEND OF MARY'S BEAN is my Friday blog.
Have a great weekend.
What a sweet spot you have with all those meaning full things displayed for all to enjoy. The books are especially neat. MY family is also Italian, the Italian immigrants that came to this country had such a rich heritage and were so hardworking I love to read about them!
