Off to South Padre Island

My husband loves spur of the moment fun.

Even though our son and his family live within 10 minutes of the second most popular surfing beaches in Mexico... they love to beachcomb.

So he offered to take everyone to SPI which is less than a two-hour drive from us.

They're all excited!

I'll be away from my blog for a couple of

days but hopefully we'll come home with

special memories, stories to tell and

great pictures.

Our grandchildren, David and Carmen, are visiting from Mexico right now.

They really know how to liven up a day!

Proof that children are for the young.

(My aching back!)

But I tear up thinking about August 1st..  the day they fly back to their home.

I hope they'll remember that we have played

and spent time together.

Carmen is fluent in both English and Spanish.

David understands both languages as well as any two year old can.

They ARE my favorite "things"...

my grandchildren.

Show and Tell Friday: Murano Glass Candlesticks

Italian Murano Glass Candlesticks

In my early days of blogging I featured this picture... my excuse for such poor photography stated. Ha!

The colors might seem a little on the bright side, but these candlesticks are

beautiful to me.

My aunt began her career in the 1950's. She made a trip to Italy

and purchased these for her mother.

Eventually they were passed down to my parents... and then fortunately to me.

They do not match a single thing I own, but they are beautiful to me.. ooops! I already stated that.

Meet Jo Anne... perhaps on the trip where she purchased the

exquisite candlesticks.

Vintage Thingie Thursday - Moon and Star Pitcher

I would almost think that this is the real deal, however, the handle leaves me wondering.

I found this pitcher in an antique store in

Port Lavaca, Texas...

where strangely enough I ran into a friend I had not seen in years.

My mother always came up with great ideas for our birthdays or Halloween when we were little. We were known for our pirate or hobo parties.

Here I think my brother was probably six. He's the little boy to the left of the boy with black eye patch. I wonder where my mother got that ship that was the centerpiece. Cute idea.

Wonder if children have pirate-theme parties anymore?

I love to look at my parents' old slides. I have them in my computer

and enjoy looking at the many ways my mother

used items she had in her home. We moved fairly often

so with these slides I am reminded how creative she was

using her milk glass for holiday dinners and special occasions.

The table in this picture is covered by a tablecloth but I am sitting

at that table now as I create this posting.

The stories this table could tell!
