A Piece of Inheritance

My husband and I inherited this "table" from my husband's aunt who lived in California.
I cannot find any identifying marks on it to help me describe it. Perhaps you can help me. The top of the table is made of marble. The wood is inlaid... however, not being familiar with the many different types of wood, I cannot tell you this.
I absolutely love this piece of furnitures. It bows out if front and the cabinet door does as well, making me want to call it a "commode". What would you say?

I don't know, it is really beautiful. I have a big piece sort of like it that our TV sits up on, it is curved too. Good luck, I hope you find out! :D

What a gorgeous piece, Karen! I wish I could help you with it, but I can't--lucky you to get it!

I'm sure you'll figure out it's secret identity--what a fun mystery!

Wishing you a beautiful night, my friend!

I would suggest that is is reminiscent of a small Bombe chest. A Bombe chest is any highly detailed chest with a signature curved front. Most often the chest has drawers. Whatever we shall call it, it is a lovely decorative piece and you are lucky to have it!!

I think it is a nightstand in the style of one of the Louie's, ie Louis XIV, XV, or XVI; not really sure from the photos! It is lovely and I love small pieces like yours.

Beautiful! I never understood why furniture was called 'commode' or if that is the correct termonolgy, why a toilet is called 'commode'! Maybe Wikipedia can help us. Either way, it's a beautiful piece of furniture.

My guess is the chamber pot went in there.
