The Peacock Mystery

Have you seen these peacocks before?

I truly have a "thing" for these peacocks. They rested on my mother's fireplace mantel for years. I can't believe I never asked her about them... and now it is too late. These past several months I have seen them appear in two other blogs. One blog is Lazy Peacock where her one is painted white. The other blog is Three Hermanas. In my photograph there is the one pose. In Three Hermanas there is this pose and then another one. (If you are checking out this blog it is shown in "older posts") I had originally thought that these had just been casually bought and my mother had placed them on her mantel. Some time back I was going through old photos of my grandmother's home and there the peacocks were... on her mantel! If anyone knows anything about these peacocks I would love to hear from you!

This is so funny, because I was just thinking about my set yesterday. I love these birds and was thinking about painting them, as I have many times but I just hate to take that step....and I keep putting off a decision. Mine are in one of my bedrooms currently and still in their bright brass finish glory. These peacocks are Home Interior. I sold the product for a brief time back in the early to mid 80's and bought mine during that time. Don't you love it when you find something out about something you own and love. Just another thing I love about blogging.

One other comment....I can't remember 100%, but I think these were hostess gifts only and could not be bought.

Sorry, I keep remembering things about the peacocks and want to give you as much info as possible. It's early and my brain works in disconnect sometimes. The peacocks came in a set of two and one was in a standing position like yours and the other was in a sitting position. Yours appear to be a mismatched set of the two standing. I see no markings on my set other than, I still have the original sticker tags on the felted bottom of both mine. The tag says Syroco- copyright - Syracuse NY 13201 and made in USA. Found on the internet - Syroco" is a term applied to a material that resembles hand-carved wood. It is composed of a compression-molded mixture of thermoset resin and wood powder. Syroco molded wood is used for decorative pieces and figurines that are painted after fabrication. - My set has a little piece of the paint that has flaked off the standing bird on one of the lower tail feathers and the material does look like unpainted wood. Hope some of this has been helpful.

Well I can't be of any help, sorry. Anita seems to know quite a bit...when her brain connects, lol.
Have a coffee Anita.
I have never seen them before.

What beautiful peacocks! I know you are just so anxious to know more about them. How wonderful to know they were in your grandmother's home too, that is truly special.

Isn't that neat that they were your grandmother's! Unfortunately, after it is too late, we find questions we SHOULD have asked!

They are neat pieces!
