My husband brought home fresh cherries from
Sam's late last week. He was disappointed in their
flavor... so they sat. I "pitted" them and cooked them
in some sugar water, later added some cornstarch to thicken
them.
Then, there were the fresh beets that were sold at our
church Farmer's Market which we hold on Sundays.
I had always avoided cooking fresh beets because of all that
red. On a whim I decided to give it a try. Besides, with my
new black sink, who would see the red??
Here are the beets after I cooked them for an hour
in simmering water. I cooled them just a bit and the skin came off easily. I diced them up and let them cool a little more I mixed up some thicken cornstarch, sugar and a bit of the red water the beets had been cooked in. I added this mixture to the beets and also added a tablespoon of butter.
Here is the finished product with the cherries.

YUMMY! I never get tired of a good recipe! I wish that I had gotten a black sink when I built my house 9 years ago! I got white and I am constantly cleaning it! Black sure would look good in my kitchen, sigh! Hope your husband enjoyed your sweet treats! Have a blessed day, HUGS!
Mmmm that looks good! A black sink would have been perfect for us her on the farm where we have 'rusty' water that turns EVERYTHING rust colored. Thank heavens the laundry doesn't turn that color..so far so good anyway. My goodness you live an adventuresome life! I love beets, no matter how they're prepared! Even the greens are pretty tasty, with a little vinegar poured on them. Now you've made me hungry!

I love cherries, but cannot find good sweet ones. The fruit here has not been as good as usual. I would enjoy any of the things you shared today.
Please repeat your cherry cobbler recipe for those of us who do not have it. I LOVE fresh cherries as well as cherry cobbler. Sounds like you had a really good weekend of cooking! Doesn't it feel good to have fresh food?

Karen...A YUMMY post indeed. I LOVE home cooked beets, and I don;t mind in the least that it takes a day to get all of the red off of my fingers. I, too, have gotten cherries that were a bit too tart, so your idea of cooking them with sugar was a great one. Happy Rednesday to you and the family.

Looks like a great big red feast!! And it looks delicious.:o) I love both beets and cherries. My mom would always wrap the beets and tinfoil and cook them in the oven. I guess kinda like a potato. I hope that y'all enjoyed the wonderful dish!
