Suchitlan, Mexico

A Sunday drive up to Suchitlan near the city of Comala in Mexico, is a perfect place to enjoy the cool air of a high 

elevation in Mexico. 

It is known for coffee bean and fruit trees and a wonderful

cream that is thick and poured on top of many of the 

wonderful dishes that are prepared daily at the restaurant, Portales. 

On this particular trip we had our son and his two children with us. Our grandchildren love going to Suchitlan so they can play on the swings and slides. There are also 

tables with crafts for them to enjoy. 

The food is delicious and it is fascinating to watch 

blue corn tortillas made by hand. 

For sure we will make a trip to Suchitlan on our next 

trip which is coming up soon!

country, unselfishly in a time of our need.

My prayers and deepest respect go out to the

soldiers around the world who are fighting for

peace.

I also want to mention that my paternal grandmother,

Ruby Heath Boykin, would have been 106 years old today.

I miss her so much.

She inspired me to cook and bake and to

appreciate American cooking.

She was born prematurely, placed in a cigar box near

an oven... and was not named until it was evident that

she would survive. After her own father died, the doctor

who delivered her became her step-father some

years later.

It's REDnesday - My booth goes Christmasy!

It's time for Christmas!

It's absolutely a favorite time of the year for me.

I love Christmas... the red and green and some of the non-traditional colors as well.

The Fall and Halloween decorations are now

out of my booth at the local antiques mall.

The red and green is up and today I

will add more decorations... ready for someone's

home this Christmas season.

I'm heading out in just a couple of hours.

Can't wait!!

Tuesdays at the Table -- for a little Texas BBQ! Yee-haw!!

We met up with our middle son in Houston a week ago Saturday. He had just driven in after living in La Jolla, California for a little over a year. Well... as any red-blooded Texas man would... he headed for the first barbecue place he could... Goode BBQ!

Daren chose sliced, smoked turkey, jalapeno/cheese bread

and cole slaw.

I chose pork ribs, cole slaw and dirty rice.

My husband chose smoked duck, brisket,

cole slaw and the jalapeno/cheese bread.

The food was excellent!!

My "new" Milk Glass Punch Bowl

Milk Glass Punch Bowl

Last Friday I made a trip to Brenham, Texas

for some antique and collectibles shopping.

While my husband played golf with his

Aggie buddies (see yesterday's post)

I enjoyed time with Aggie wives... some of us

friends for over 40 years!

In one of the shops I found a milk glass punch

bowl that just said, "Buy me"!

I am finding out that it was probably not that

great of a deal. It does have twelve cups with it

though and that is a big plus.

The whole point is it is to remind me of the

very nice punch bowl my mother had

when I was growing up.

My mother's was a thick milk glass punch

bowl. Hopefully someday I will find one

like it.

Anyhow... I am still pleased with my

$80.. yes, $80 purchase.

One saving grace, the proceeds from the shop's

sales go to support a local half-way house

for people with addiction problems.

The reunion was fantastic!

Well, here goes...

My husband enjoyed two days of golf with his

Aggie buddies on a fantastic golf course.

He rarely gets to play golf, so

this truly was a treat.

We had dinner two nights in the homes of the local Aggie friends. Such wonderful food and great visits.

We don't see everyone but maybe once a year, however,

we were fortunate to see some of the gang recently

at a wedding... which I blogged about a couple of

weeks ago.

The game was great! A&M isn't exactly known for

their terrific football record, but that Saturday

the Aggies did us proud with a win against

Texas Tech. Of course, I have to remind myself often

not to be too judgemental. Our daughter-in-law got

her medical degress from Texas Tech.

There was time for the women to take off for a few

hours of "antiquing" in Brenham which is only about

a 40 minute drive away.

Was I ever lucky to find a milk glass punch bowl!

It isn't as pretty as the one my mother had...

which is a family mystery as to where it is.

But I will enjoy it and just let it be a reminder

of hers.

On Sunday we were fortunate to be only

a two hour drive from Houston where our middle

son had just driven in the day before.

He is beginning the process of the move to Houston

from La Jolla, California.

He will return to La Jolla Thanksgiving Eve to

load up, and bring his sweet wife and our

two "grand dogs" back to Texas.

This will be the closest they have ever lived to us...

and even then it will be a six hour drive for us.

But who cares?! They'll be Texans again.

Our son, Daren.

He should get a huge award

for being the most patient husband ever!

He has seen his wife through medical school in

Lubbock, Texas, a year of research in Chicago, Illinois,

years of residency in Lubbock and then a year of

a fellowship in La Jolla, California. Mind you, he

had to get a new job with each move... and he did it.

We are hugely proud of both our son and his wife.
