I pause this blog... for family!

 October 1915.

Mabel and Otto Peterson settled in Olivia, Texas in a "pre-fab" home from Sears and Roebuck. The pieces all made their way by boat across a bay by this home. 

I'm going to take a break from my blog for just a few days. I am working on my husband's reunion, family tree and the family history book... all of which is behind schedule. We leave Wednesday for the reunion, so, yes, I am in a panic.

If I have not replied to your visits to Ladybug Creek, please forgive me. I will soon.

Summer Sundays - ca. 1954

The Town Pond

Summer Sundays where I grew up in College Station, Texas were fun. My mother and father was not at work so after church either my parents would work in the yard

or take a little time

to do something like this in the town "pond". The little boy to the right is my brother. I'm in the the forefront. (ca. 1954)

The Brackenridge Eagle

This little train made it's round throughout Brackenridge Park in San Antonio, Texas. My grandfather and a friend of his owned this little train. My sister and I would ride and ride on it. Occasionally would get off at different stops to go through Witte Museum, the Japanese Gardens or play putt-putt golf.

We would drive to San Antonio on a Saturday and spend Sunday with

my grandparents. (ca. 1954)

1) I have lived in Mexico for a total of

four years

2) I was nearly born on a tennis court on the

Texas A&M University campus

3) I was actually born on Labor Day - September 2nd... get it? "Labor"...

4) I hosted Dr. Michael DeBakey for a meeting where he received an award - picked him up from the airport, took him to the hotel, we had a drink in the bar... most unattractive man I ever met... most suave and elegant manners I've ever been around. Interviewed him on a story about eating beef -- remember, "DeBakey's Not Flakey... Beef is Okay"...

(stop chuckling!)

5) I LOVE to wash clothes... my washing machine and dryer run nearly 24/7

6) I LOVE to write family cookbooks

7) Two of my best friends in life are bloggers

It's a Zacatecas Silver Kinda Sunday

My husband and son found me adoring drooling (let's be honest here) over this silver and turquoise necklace in a shop in Zacatecus, Mexico. Well...

it was close to my birthday... and...

I didn't know they had purchased it for me, but my husband waited until

he and friends of ours went to dinner and he gave it to me.

Pink Perla in the Paper!

Pink Perla in the Paper!

I was feeling so sorry for myself since in my home you would be very hard pressed to find any pink.

It all stems from having almost all testosterone-oriented household. When I was mothering my boys in the old days there just wasn't much use for pink.

So, alas, I can hardly find a dish, a book, a lamp, an article of clothing even that has pink on it!

Low and behold I open Facebook to see this posting made by my dear daughter-in-law in

La Jolla, California. "Perla", their Great Dane puppy is so pink. I believe she only has six black spots. You may know that few spots on an all white animal often-times means deafness.. and yes, Perla is deaf. She knows doggy sign language.

She made the paper to help support the local

Humane Society.

So here's my pink. I missed the deadline, however, I'm still celebrating Pink Saturday!

Now how could so much time have passed that I have son who is 39 years old today?

He was born at Loring AFB, Maine in 1971.

At this moment 39 years ago he and I

were struggling together to make a

grand entrance.

Lance and my husband are business partners

in a farming operation in Mexico.

He has a wonderful wife and two perfect children - Carmen and David, who is

pictured above.
