Tuesdays at the Table

P.S.
I Googled a recipe for this and this one seemed like the closest one:

1 cup milk
1 eggs, beaten
1 1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon seasoning salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
6 ears corn, husks and silk removed
Oil (for frying)

Combine milk and egg in shallow dish and mix well. Combine flour, seasoned salt and pepper in shallow dish and mix well.  Dip each ear of corn into milk and egg mixture, then roll in seasoned flour. Knock off excess flour. In a large skillet, heat oil to 350 degrees.  Add corn and fry for 5 minutes or until golden brown (approximately 2-1/2 minutes on each side).  Drain on paper towels.

Mosaic Monday: Sunset with David

Sunset with David

I can't resist sharing my sunset pictures with you and since it's Mosaic Monday, I'm linking over to Mary at Little Red House.
Be sure to visit her as there are wonderful mosaics to enjoy!

Home again!

Keller Bay, Olivia, Texas

We've just driven in from my husband's family reunion and too late for me to make much of a posting. I just had to share this one picture with you though. I took this last evening from the banks of the bay where my husband's father grew up. It's the Mabel and Otto Peterson homestead. This young Swedish couple (pictured below in front of their home) brought up two boys who spent many hours enjoying the waters of Keller Bay. Fishing was a way of life and my father-in-law could construct a cast net at a young age.
Swedish was their first language until they went to school where the boys learned English quickly.
A Swedish newspaper was still read at home and the blessing for all meals was recited in Swedish.
Oysters were harvested from this bay for many years and enjoyed by all who mastered the art of shucking them. Armed with a gig and a lantern they were experts at gigging flounder.
Sitting on the pier, listening to the water hit up against the pilings I could almost hear the voices of family long-gone and from a different time. I knew they would have been pleased that the homestead is still being enjoyed by their descendents.

I pause this blog... for family!

 October 1915.
Mabel and Otto Peterson settled in Olivia, Texas in a "pre-fab" home from Sears and Roebuck. The pieces all made their way by boat across a bay by this home.

I'm going to take a break from my blog for just a few days. I am working on my husband's reunion, family tree and the family history book... all of which is behind schedule. We leave Wednesday for the reunion, so, yes, I am in a panic.
If I have not replied to your visits to Ladybug Creek, please forgive me. I will soon.

Have a great week, dear friends!

Summer Sundays - ca. 1954

The Town Pond

Summer Sundays where I grew up in College Station, Texas were fun. My mother and father was not at work so after church either my parents would work in the yard
or take a little time
to do something like this in the town "pond". The little boy to the right is my brother. I'm in the the forefront. (ca. 1954)

The Brackenridge Eagle

This little train made it's round throughout Brackenridge Park in San Antonio, Texas. My grandfather and a friend of his owned this little train. My sister and I would ride and ride on it. Occasionally would get off at different stops to go through Witte Museum, the Japanese Gardens or play putt-putt golf.
We would drive to San Antonio on a Saturday and spend Sunday with
my grandparents. (ca. 1954)

Thank you, Donna!
Wow!

If y'all haven't been to
The House on the Corner

then hop over there and get to know Donna.
We're both Texas ladies...
and, yes... Donna probably says, "Y'all", too!

I need to tell you 7 things about me

Interviewed him on a story about eating beef -- remember, "DeBakey's Not Flakey... Beef is Okay"...
(stop chuckling!)
5) I LOVE to wash clothes... my washing machine and dryer run nearly 24/7
6) I LOVE to write family cookbooks
7) Two of my best friends in life are bloggers
you might know

Okay... now here are 15 blogs for you to visit:
