Bloggin' and music on this fine Saturday!

Manzanillo, Mexico
2008

I'm slightly getting back to "normal" on my blog. Goodness! I doubt I'll ever stray from home again. I was surprised at how unsettled it made me feel. Thanks to my good friend and neighbor, Laura (White Spray Paint) who cheered me onward.

Something else... I love most music on blogs as long as it is not distracting. Once in awhile I cross the line there but it just seems like it fits... especially if there are old pictures. Then I try to find music that fits that period of time. I love doing that. Right now I have music that is very soothing. I just leave my blog on and while I work around the house I can listen to it. There are a few other blogs I do that with as well.

Have a wonderful Saturday, everyone!

Karen

What a mess I have created!

As you can see, my blog is all messed up. And it's all my fault. I was told to just use a practice for trying out the new Blogger templates, etc. I just thought I would take a quick look. YIKES! It will not go back to "normal". What to do? If you can help me in very simple ways I would appreciate it. I have strayed... I know. Never again!! Thank you!!

Remembering Ruby on White Wednesday

My grandmother, Ruby Opal Heath Boykin, was married quite young. She was an only child, born premature, unnamed for several days, kept in a cigar box near the oven to stay alive. She was a fighter from the start. She grew into a beautiful woman who was creative and talented. Her watercolors usually carried a message. She loved to have parts in the high school plays and was an avid "scrapbooker" before we ever really knew what that was.
She had beautiful hands and kept them soft with her nails always manicured. The white gloves in the picturs may look dingy but she used them for everything from putting her stockings to dusting the furniture and keeping her silver in tip top shape. She "journaled" faithfully and would have been a dedicated blogger given the technology was available. She was comfortable with china and crystal and at the same time, could clean a house from top to bottom.
Ruby loved the skies and wrote about riding in open-air planes that made their way from town to town flying to entertain the crowds. Pole sitters were of interest to her also. Anyone who would dare to take a risk interested her.
My aunt recently gave my grandmother's once-upon-a-time white gloves to me. I'm so thrilled to have them and will soon have them on display for me to see daily. She was a woman who was strong underneath, worked diligently when necessary and did it all in the most feminine way. There's a lot to think about there.

He was the love of her life.

Sunflowers as far as one could see!

These gorgeous sunflowers were amazing! I'm not the best photographer,
so you can't see from these pictures that there were miles and miles... rather acres and acres of them glowing in our hot south Texas sun.

I was just sure I was going to see a happy face
in this sunflower... but I certainly had one
just looking at it.
The sunflower looks a little wind-blown but south Texas winds
are notorious for being brutal.

Even though the song is about corn, I still felt like I was listening to a song
from "Oklahoma"!

Lt. & Mrs. David R. Peterson
June 6, 1970

It will be forty years of marriage this Sunday.
It is hard to imagine.. as I am sure everyone says.

We were married the week my husband graduated from Texas A&M University and was commissioned in the United States Air Force.

Looking back he had more adjustments to make than I did.
He certainly managed them well.

We spent four years in the Air Force - lived in Texas, Colorado, Maine, he went to Korea and I moved back to Texas with our first born son, and then when he came
home we were sent to Arkansas.

We moved back to Texas when my husband's four year committment was up
and he joined the family farming operation.

We had two more sons and after sending them all off to college,
started our own family farming operation in Mexico.

All of our sons have brought us so much joy:

1st born is our business partner in Mexico
His wife is a successful businesswoman.
Two children

2nd born son is assistant national sales administrator for a company
His wife is a doctor
Two "grand dogs"
(Great Danes to be exact!)

3rd son is a very successful realtor for a national company
He lives close by and we enjoy seeing him so much!
He is enjoying the single life.

We've been blessed. It's been a marriage of adventure with the usual
trials and tribulations that have made for an even stronger union.

Life is good!

Here we are today... a few more inches, a little less hair...
but, oh so happy to have each other!
